Being a massive fan of iconic rally cars I had heard about a new UK company Controlfreax who have launched their first shell, a Ford RS200.
Now anyone who remembers the classic days of Rally will know that this was a beast.. 60mph in 2.1 seconds! Styling by Ghia, built by Reliant - Ford's Group B rally car was a sensational car, although it never got to really shine as Group B cars were soon banned after a tragic accident.
Anyway, the rs200 ranks up there with the mighty Escort Cosworth in my 'Cool Wall' so I promptly ordered a shell from their store.
A big box arrived promptly, the shell was well packaged, it came with a large decal sheet, Window masks and the lexan shell.
The first thing I did was to cut it out and mark the body holes. This was going to fit on my old Jamie booth Mantaray rally conversion chassis, (replacing a very well used escort cosworth shell)
ControlFreax supply you with a spare part of lexan that contains the rear spoiler, roof air-intakes and a front lightpod. This is cool as you can choose which spec you want to make your RS200 as they have a range of configurations.. this is a nice touch.
The shell was painted and the decals applied quickly. The shells don't come with overspray film, so I did the old trick of just using some clingfilm.
The end result is stunning! take a look at my photos.. this car looks even better when its ragging through the dirt.
Overall I cant recommend it enough, the lexan is good quality, and the form of the shell is excellent and this coupled with a fantastic price really should put Controlfreax on the map.
