Following on from the previous article about running a friction damper as the centre link I have had a lot of enquires about any further experiments with a spring damper. Well I haven't actually had any track time other than literally a few inconclusive laps but for those who are interested here is a list of components that fit.
  • 1 x 54341 RM-01 Aluminium Pitch Damper
  • 1 x 53969 5x8mm Hard Hex Head Ball connectors (You need two from packet of 5)
  • 53539 Tamiya 5.5mm spacers set (Or other shims). I only needed two of the 3mm spacers

The shock is nice and easy to build, I used a stiff oil (Muchmore 750). Its threaded so easy to adjust if needed and I also used the silver spring.

When attached (easily through the top deck) you can see that is is still nice and narrow.

Also there is plenty of clearance between the top deck and the centre weight.

The part with the ball connectors weighs in at 8 grams. around 3g heavier than the friction damper.

As mentioned earlier, I have nothing much to report as I have not been able to give it a good test, hopefully I will be at MB models this Saturday for some track time.
