Tamiya TA08 Turnbuckle top deck mod

The Tamiya TA08 pro is great, but it does have a slight problem once you start to run faster motors. The chassis is flexy, which is fine, but the extra load of a powerful motor does provide some unwanted longitudinal flex. 

I made a nice carbon conversion, which is available for non-profit (Details here). I was contacted by Thijs Goedegebure who had made a mod themselves that they want to share, its simple, cheap and Thijs has found it works well. 

The turnbuckle upper deck requires the following

• 2x 230-234mm pieces of threaded M3 Rod (Buy a larger size and cut it down)
• Tamiya 50875 5mm ball connectors (For the rod ends)
• Tamiya 5mm ball nuts
• 20mm grub screws
• Spacers (Thijs used 10mm).

You simply need to make two rods with approx 220mm between the end of the Ball connectors. 

Then make the attachment points by using the grub screws, placing the spacers 10mm approx and then attaching the ball nuts on the top. 

This will provide a good clearance for the motor mount and spur gear. 

You can obviously just make the two upper tie rods go front to rear. Although Thijs actually had his crossing over each other.

This allowed him to adjust the cross weights of the car.  This is the corner weights before the upper tie rods.

This is with the tie rods attached and the length tweaked. As you can see the corner weights are much better.
