So in following the previous thread about racing an older chassis and getting it race ready here is a great accessory. The spec-r downstop chassis protector spacer (catchy name!)
why do I need these?
Whist fixing up your old race chassis on of the parts that can wear is under the droop screws.
For example here is how the downstop screw has dug onto the 415
As you can see the screws had chipped away at the carbon over time and had made indents on the top layer. The big problem is that these will effect your droop settings. Even being a millimetre out can mess with your settings, especially as the wear will be uneven on the left and right hand sides of the chassis. Which will become a massive pain redoing your settings trying to keep up with a chassis which is slowly wearing away.
So instead of buying a new chassis, you can protect your old one with the spec-r protectors.
In the packet there are just 4 cut metal tabs with some thin but heavy duty double sided tape.
Fitting
To fit you just have to put the tape on the metal tabs and then place them on your chassis under where your droop screw makes contact with the chassis.
Easy! As you can see the block has covered the indent. After fitting the tabs in all 4 corners of the car its all done. The result has given the old TRF415 chassis a great lease of life. Its now back to being easy and consistent to set-up.
Overall
Overall I would recommend these to anyone who races. For the sake of around £3 you will have a chassis that will last you a long time, and importantly be consistent to keep set up.
Top stuff! Suffice to say I have fitted a set of these to my main race cars.
Here is a link to the spec-r page where you can buy them.
Spec-r
As a final point it's obvious that you can make your own by cutting some brass/steel, and sanding them smooth and flat. However the price and convenience of the spec-r solution is much better for most.
