I wanted to make sure that I was a bit quicker for the second final. I noticed my car was not as quick on the straight as the others.
I turned the motor timing up, but didn't have much time between heats to swap the pinion.
I also noticed my rear diff was a bit notchy, I just had to hope that the diff would be fine in the race.
So we all lined up for the race, as the beeps started I knuckled down and went for it.
The start went cleanly and I was leading, but before the lap was over I had also had the car swap ends and was facing the wrong way!
I managed to get quickly back to second place, closing in on the leader, he went wide leading onto the straight. This was my opportunity to take the lead but I got thrown out by his strange line expecting a car to be on the racing line and eased off the throttle.
As soon as I realised my mistake I hit full throttle and we chased down the straight. Unfortuantely the speed of my car still couldn't match his and by the first apex after the straight I had to concede the corner.
The rest of the race I had to charge hard just hoping for an incident as I just couldn't make much impact due to the slight lack of speed on the straight, and the leader was spot on lap after lap.
I however was doing well on the infield and found myself slightly catching up over the race, then after the 4th minute my car started making a funny noise.. The car started to kick out randomly I thought it might be the diff jamming (Tip maybe even tamiya gear diffs need a service after a year's worth of racing;) I was comfortably in second by a Lap so just kept on it and finished 3-4 seconds off the leader.
So overall I got second in the series with 298 points. Just 1 point of first place. I'm pretty chuffed as I hadn't raced rubber tyres before this series and the car has been fantastic.
The BIWS series has been excellent and I hope they manage to get it going again this year. I've met some good people and have had a great time racing TC's
Just hope the wife lets me out to do a summer series now :)
