Team Axon have been impressing racers in their native Japan with their gears, and now they are available worldwide. Some of my racing buddies over there have been raving about them so I was keen to try some in my car.
When you take out the gear you can see that it is a high quality spur. In fact it is so straight and true I am quite amazed.
The teeth are all exactly the same thanks to the way in which they are made at the factory, and the striking spiral internal pattern has been devised to ensure that the drive torque focuses around the belt pulley. When you pop it on a perfectly flat surface and give it a nudge it just rolls and rolls.
I popped it on a scale and it weighs 3.4g so it was 0.7g lighter than the smaller 96t panaracer gear. This all helps make the drive train more efficient and reduces the rotational mass. It also helps with braking slightly as it is a lighter spur so slightly easier to stop.
I mounted it to the TRF419, it mounts easily and the inner holes are a perfect fit. The spur is exactly the same internal width as the kit TRF spur so you will not need to change your shims.
I have been running these spurs for a few weeks now, and these are now my preferred spur gears. They are so well made, the car runs silently and after 8 weeks of racing the spur looks as good as new.
Simply put, these are precise, strong and light. I will be using these in my car from now on, excellent!
