- Broken alternator and puncture at midway point sets back car #32,
- Despite tough race Cullen, Brundle and Owen bring the United Ligier home.
- Ryan learns a lot from his Le Mans debut.
The United car 32 of Ryan Cullen, Alex Brundle and Will Owen can consider themselves unfortunate to not come away from Le Mans with a lot more after a puncture and alternator failure cost them a possible top sixth finish
#32 started ninth and was running a strong seventh when it lost 36 minutes due to an alternator change in the 13th hour, which was followed by another seven minutes to replace a punctured left rear tyre and new rear body deck damaged by the flailing tyre.
To add to the bad luck they lost a further 14 minutes after 10am Sunday morning when a replacement rear engine cover was difficult to fasten.
Despite being disappointed with the result, Ryan Cullen reflected on his first
Le Mans. “My first ever race laps at Le Mans were really eye opening - nothing really prepares you for the actual race. I did a quadruple stint in the night, which I was really happy with, staying consistent with no mistakes. It’s been really tough, tiring, but we had no luck. That said, I really enjoyed it and already want to come back next year!”
The Tamiya branded Car of Cullen, Brundle and Owen crosses the line after a tough 24 hours. |
