Indoor season is coming around.. With that in mind it was time to refine the set-up for the TRF420X. It was going to be interesting to see if the chassis could compete with all of the 'Modern' TC chassis from other manufacturers at a larger event.
A few of us TRF racers met up for the Stoke MCC bank holiday race event. We knew there would be a an inviting relaxed atmosphere, but also some fierce racing competition.
The day went well, in qualifying we all tried different things to see how we could increase grip and make it consistent over the 5 minutes. Once we found the recipe for the tyres we started to play with set-up.
Pushing hard to find the right set-up can sometime cause a breakage :)
All of us were running the rear toe set-up, and trying different levels of base and additive toe-in. We wouldn't say it was essential, but it seemed to work well here and the TRF420X was able to keep up with any car on the track, posting the second fastest lap times, only a few hundreds of a second slower that the fastest car on track. This is more impressive when you consider that we were totally new to the track, which had been used for several weeks prior. In the finals the car was on point, and all drivers found the car was easy to drive quickly.
So in summary, any lingering doubts whether this car can compete have been well and truly crushed, especially as we feel that there is even more speed that can be extracted from this car.
