2024 has been very similar to 23 for me. It's been hectic away from the hobby so that has meant the website hasn't had quite the amount of time I would normally like to spend on it.
I have prioritised IRL RC stuff where possible. Racing at my local club which I help organise is fun and rewarding and nothing clears your mind like trying to not smash your hubs on a track marker for 5 minutes.
Anyway, I thought I would still be interesting to pick out some things that have happened over the last year..
I started 2024 picking up a bag of junk TBEvo 4 parts.. The first project of the year and one that hasn't moved on very much.. I now have some crucial missing parts. It's just that it has moved down the list of projects that I have ongoing at the moment.
Tamiya surprised us all with the announcement of the TRF421. It was great to see such a big theoretical jump from the Tamiya Racing Factory. It was frustrating that we had to wait so long to get our hands on it. Yes before anyone mentions it, I've done the review. That will land tomorrow.. it's rather long.
Despite the TRF421 landing, I actually spent a lot of time running some of the more quirky onroad Tamiya cars, and I loved every minute of it.
The TA07MS was great fun once I addressed the flex.. I still carry it around in my pit bag for a back up car as it also seems to be indestructible.
The TBevo 8 was also a revelation, everyone loves a fast shafty and the Evo delivered in spades. I still am surprised that it hasn't stripped a spur gear with all of the flex around the centre of the chassis, but it works a treat. Importantly, that car also got my son back racing for a short while when he was back from Uni.
Taking the TA08 Pro to Micc was a lot more fun that I thought it would be. Work was just too busy for me to then become obsessed with performing with the TRF, so going back to my roots and running a plastic tub Tamiya at such a big event was the perfect tonic. Watch out for the new round where I intend to run the TT02!!
There was also the excellent review of the Tamiya F104 pro2 by Mark Raddenbury. That's whetted my appetite for F1 and I have some fun things I want to experiment with in the next year.

I also helped with the creation of the limited edition Collecting Cars / Tamiya GR Yaris release. It was great to see Jake Hill race the Tamiya I built.
The TRF Onroad Racing FB page has also gone from strength to strength. There are some great posts for the Tamiya community on there.
There are also some cool new parts that have been sent out for testing with other TRF421 drivers, a potential frontie / TRF mash-up, an upgrade kit for the TRF420X and something very cool for the TT02 that I just need to get out of the door.. hopefully I can share that with you soon :)
So what for next year.. well expect something soon from TRF, they announced the TRF421 in Jan last year so it will be interesting to see if they announce some parts or kits around the same time. Importantly, what would you like to see from Tamiya in 2025?
TheRCRacer will be here to report on it, when were not trying to improve lap times at the track..
Finally I want to say thanks for all the contributors and readers of the site and the FB page. I'm constantly amazed at how popular the site is, and its great to talk RC with you all and listen to your comments. Here is to a great 2025👍
TRF104 is more than past due!! :)
