RugRacers Round 2 1st December 2024

RugRacers & title sponsor Schumacher were back for Round 2 of the 5 round winter series looking forwards to more close racing from Round 1, which did not disappoint.

With a change to the running order we started with Stock, Super close battles continued for the 2nd spot in Qualy with the class of the field, Finley Whitelock, taking TQ in all 4 rounds of qualy and the only driver to make it onto 30 laps.  The finals would see close racing behind with Billy making progress to take the 2nd step ahead of Ben Moorey, Finley remaining untouchable taking 2 lights to tone wins, a very popular winner as applause rang out for the young 16year old driver and many a hug for nervous Dad Ross watching on.

MB Models Front Wheel drive class was as ever super close, although through Rounds 1 to 3 Ricky Copsey seemed to be holding a strong advantage with 3 TQ runs, The final Round of Qualy went right to the wire with at one point 6 others cars capable of snatching the TQ away, Sam Jones was able to move up to 2nd for the 2 Leg Finals, 

Final 1 started cleanly before a mistake by the leader shuffled the pack and saw Ben Morey came through from 5th place to take the leg 1 win Sam Jones was holding on to the lead from 2nd but Ben getting a move done late to take Leg 1, Leg 2 provided a great show, lots of excellent driving and close racing with positions being swapped lap after lap, Ben would again make it through to take the win with the battle for 2nd place finishing up in Ricky's favour from Liam Tyrell & Ethan Southall, all crossing the line 8ths apart.

Modified, we were lucky to have Michal Orlowski joining us today, an opportunity for many to watch one of the very best out there close up racing, every time he was on track the pits seemed to empty as everyone watched on.  On the day though it was his team mate & National champion Elliott Harper that would take TQ in all 4 rounds to line up on pole, Harley Eldridge, the fastest female on the planet was just pipped to 2nd by Michal by 2ths.

Leg 1 and the lead cars got away together, Harley dropped to the back but produced a stellar drive of racing and clean overtaking to make it back to 4th by the tone, Elliott was able to extend out to a gap of 2secs from Michal and they would cross the line in that order with Andy Murray 3rd.  Leg 2 would also go the way of Elliott Harper to take to leg wins with Michal 2nd & Harley Eldridge 3rd and claiming the last spot on the podium with a faster Leg 2 race time.
