TheRcRacer Tamiya TT02 carbon Top deck available

As anyone who reads this site knows, I like racing Tamiya's of all shapes and sizes. I have really enjoyed trying to see how far I can go with the Tamiya TT02. One of the parts that has transformed the chassis is the carbon top deck.

I have been making minor tweaks over the last few months but I am now happy to say that it is finished. It is available to order from Fibrelyte (Click here) So let's take a closer look.

The top deck itself is made from 2mm carbon fibre. It has mounting holes for the front and rear gearboxes, separate mounts for stiffener posts and a large circle fitting for hand out transponders.

The top deck will fit all TT02 variants from the std kit version to the TT02-RR and TT02-TypeS variations. Once attached the Top deck transforms the stiffness of the chassis, making it more exact. This allows you to then easily tune the rest of the car as you will have a dependable stiff chassis.

It is very simple to fit. You you just need to remove the screws that are already on the gearbox covers, place the top deck over them and re-apply the screws. For the TT02-TypeS you do not have screws there, I just used 4 titanium m3 6mm titanium screws, for standard TT02's the 10mm screws you have will be fine, although you could swap them out for 12mm ones to compensate for the extra height of the carbon top deck.

For the TT02B you need to remove the front and rear bodyposts (part C6) that fits on the gearbox, add the deck and then attach the screws through and fit the bodypost mounts (Part C6) back over it. (You could use 10mm screws to compensate for the 2mm thick upper deck).

Stiffener posts

One of the features that I created for the top deck is the ability to add additional stiffener posts.

The stiffener posts add a new dimension to the chassis handling. Attaching these allow you to get more front end bite from the chassis.

Mounting the posts.

The Top deck is at a different height depending on if you run a Std TT02 or the TT02-TypeS. Just follow the instructions below.

You need to remove the screws from the bearing mounts and replace them with some M3 X 8mm grub screws (Very cheap to buy). screw those in so there is approx 4mm exposed and then screw on a M3 threaded standoff posts. There are lots available, if you search Drone Standoff in ebay you will get loads of options. You need to ensure that the posts are no taller than the sizes below.
  • TT02 (All variations other than TT02-Type-S and TT02B) - 22mm
  • TT02 Type-S and TT02B 20.5mm

I just purchased a set of 5 M3 20mm posts and then added shims to make them the correct height (2mm shim  for TT02 with std suspension, 0.5mm for TypeS).

Here you can see how I attached the extra 2mm shim on the post on a std TT02.

Overall

The top deck has really helped push the handling of my TT02 to a different level. I've put it through its paces when club racing (Even at a UK national), its also worked well in Drift, Rally and even off road situations in a TT02B :)

Along with the stiffener posts option it has helped me to get better times and refine the tuning of the car. Anyway if you are interested in trying it out. There is info below on how to order the part. As is the case for these parts I do not make a penny, they are just for us Tamiya Racers. However always interested in hearing your feedback.

How to order the TT02 upper deck?

The part is approx £17 (At time of writing this).

The parts are available direct here : http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/

Email  sales@fibre-lyte.co.uk

If you put this in the title 'TheRcRacer TT02 Top Deck'

You can list the parts you are after and will need to give your address so they can calculate the postage and send you a paypal payment request.

Cost
These are for fellow Tamiya racers, these do not provide any profit for me, they are a thank you for all of the people who have helped follow this site. You simply pay for the cost of the manufactured parts.

Help develop more parts

If you appreciate the non profit work I have done, please feel free to tip me to help me to afford to develop more parts. You can make a safe Tip by clicking this link https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TheRcRacer

Disclaimer and thanks

These have been made as a contribution to the Tamiya racing community. There is no profit for myself and the parts can be ordered directly via Fibrelyte. These are just a tuning aid, I found them to work well, as has others who have tested parts. Every track / driving style is different so do  not expect a golden bullet.

Thanks to Steve at Fibre-Lyte

As mentioned before, these are a community project which I have invested in designing and manufacturing for my fellow racers, so please let's share feedback and set-ups and I can try to refine or design other parts in the future :)

  1. Great content as usual! How did you manage to install front and rear stabilizer on a TT02 type Chassis? I have been thinking of doing it since a long time
