After plunging straight into the deep end by running a stock Tamiya TA08 pro at the first round of the M.I.C.C championship, I was enamoured with the flexible (literally) race chassis so I have continued to run it at some local clubs.
It was an interesting experience. As you would expect the car is essentially on pace with anything else once the grip is quite low, however once the grip comes up the car was really starting to suffer. This is because the two clubs that I raced at are much smaller in size so the corners are much, much sharper.
luckily I was able to tweak the set up and in the end I managed to reduce the propensity to roll on some of the more extreme hairpins.
The main thing I changed was the front spacers to reduce the amount of caster. The car was more keen to roll coming out of the corner, so reducing the caster takes away some of the steering from the apex to the corner exit. It also has the side effect of making the car a little more responsive for the smaller tighter tracks.
The second main tweak was to reduce the toe in at the rear. This was to free up the car more as it rotates in the corner. This reduction of grip also helps to battle the grip roll as the rear would be more akin to sliding out than digging in. This is better on the tight track as well, we are so close to the cars, a certain amount of oversteer is actually beneficial, especially if it's easy to control.
The other change was to go to a softer front spring (Red).
Here is the set-up I used.
